I am trying out a "new feature" here. My husband Russ, has been golfing since he was 7 years of age. He is now in his late fifties. He has MS but that does not stop him from still going out and playing his usual 18 holes. With my Fibromyalgia I only get in 9 holes--I usually play every other hole. I call odds or evens before we start. My new idea for a feature here is to have Russ "Review" Courses we play on. He may even give tips--he's not sure about that yet. Living now is Southern Utah gives us a lot more Opportunities to play even a much wider range of courses. We live only 45 minutes from St. George UT. Forty-five more minutes down the road is Mesquite NV then another hour and a half from there is Las Vegas, NV.
I will ask the questions and Russ will answer them since he tells me I'm the writer not him.

1) What was your overall impression of the Staff at Desert Pines? Very Good, helpful, and accomadatinng.
We were an hr. early and they got us on the course within 15 mins. They were very friendly. They also
have a Course Marshall who goes around and checks on everyone.
2) Do you think the Fees charged are fair for this course? This is the Prime Time of Year so it will be high
at this time. Also, you must remember it is Vegas.
3) What was your impression of the Pro Shop? It was well-stocked and had everything anyone would
need.
4) What did you think of the Course in General? Each hole has it's own personality. You can get yourself
into trouble or make it easy on yourself. The fairways are narrow and the greens are large, making you
want to go for it. All the greens are challenging. There are plenty of water hazards, sand traps and trees.
5) Would you Recommend Desert Pines to Anyone? Yes.
6) How would you rate your overall experience at Desert Pines? (1-10 ten being Excellant) Ten.

The Latest On Dirty Vials:
The Nevada State Health Officials shut down The Endoscopy Center Of Southern Nevada in conjunction with it's reuse of vials/syringes. They definitely state that it was "reused anesthesia vials"(syringes, have not been determined as of yet). There were roughly 40,000 patients potentially exposed between March 2004 and January 11,2008. The Health Department was unable to locate everyone due to not having updated addresses. Therefore, they had to take an ad out in the paper. The have set aside funds and a place for the exposed population the their families to be tested for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.
It has been said that this is the largest number exposure, at one time, for such an situation occurring. I still say, that it was out of pure laziness, or else people trying to cheat insurance companies (by cutting a few cents but still charging for the "new price" just the same). It was a total "should never have occurred incident." And for me being in the Medical Field for thirty years I would never work for a place that would ask me to do such a thing. That is definitely putting patients at "risk!"
The State Officials are saying this is "only the tip of the iceberg" as they have another endoscopy clinic under investigation now. This second clinic is associated with the previous one above, it's called Desert Shadow Endoscopy Center. At Desert Shadow no patients have been notified at this time. It has been found that no syringes were ever reused, however "anesthetic vials were reused."
The Endoscopy Center Of Southern Nevada did release a statement in the Las Vegas Sun.
"On behalf of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada, we want to express our deep concern about this incident to the many patients who have put their trust in us over the years. As always, our patients remain our primary responsibility and we have already corrected the situation.
The recent events related to the Southern Nevada Health District study mark the first time anything like this has ever happened at our facility. We have already taken steps to ensure that it will never happen again.
The health district began its investigation in January, and we have been fully cooperating with them. We were officially notified by the health district on February 6, 2008 and submitted our detailed Plan of Correction on February 15, 2008. All concerns noted by the health department were addressed immediately.
We wish to emphasize that the actual risk of anyone being affected by this is extremely low, but as a precaution, anyone who has undergone procedures at the Endoscopy Center who required anesthesia should be tested.
As I’m sure you understand this situation brings with it a number of complex elements including patient privacy and regulatory guidelines. At this time, our counsel has asked that we limit our comments to this statement, and we are unable to take questions.

Reusing Dirty Vials:
An Outrage At A Las Vegas Clinic;
What were they thinking at the Endoscopy Clinic of Southern Nevada? Reusing the same vials between March 2004 to January 11, 2007. What?! My question why did it take so long for the Nevada Health Authorities to even catch on? I mean we are roughly talking nearly four years here. Already there are several people who have been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, and there's a chance for contracting HIV also.
Reusing any part of a syringe, or a needle introduces infection and germs into that person. Using a dirty vial that hasn't been properly cleansed can also introduce germs into a patients system. The rate of transmission can be as small as one percent and up. However, nobody wants to increase their chances of contracting HIV, Hepatitis C or any other communicable disease.
I have worked in the Medical field for nearly thirty years. I can not understand the oversight at this Las Vegas clinic. It was plain laziness in my eyes. From what I can make of it they either re-used the syringe by just replacing the needle for the next patient or they just didn't cleanse the vials with an alcohol swab before injecting it with a "new sterile needle attached to a new sterile syringe" (all of which are disposable the needles and syringes). All these steps are simple and only take a few seconds and is the difference in a patients welfare. What an outrage. I feel for the patients and their families who now have to suffer the consequences and complications of Hepatitis C and HIV. I surely hope that they bring malpractice suits against the clinic for such total disregard for their health and welfare.
